The Sjøvik Group
An international fishing enterprise, rooted on Norway’s northwest coast.
Sjøvik operates from its base in Midsund, close to Ålesund — in Norway’s largest and most vital fishing region, and at one of the world’s leading fish technology centres. Through a network of companies and international partners, the group has established a worldwide sales organisation.

Fishing, processing, management and sales — each discipline strengthened by the others.
Heritage
More than 120 years at sea.
Since three brothers bought the vessel “Brothers” in 1903, generations of Sjøvik have pioneered new vessels, new fisheries and new ways of working.
1903
The start
Three brothers — Ivar Andreas, Knut Andreas and Anton Elias Misund — founded a part-owned shipping company and purchased the vessel “Brothers”. Knut Andreas moved to Sjøvika and took the name Sjøvik the same year.
1945
Sjøvik I
The company contracted a new ship, “Sjøvik I” — a combined purse seiner, fishing boat and trawler, completed in 1945.
1948
Sjøvik ex. Svega
Rebuilt in Sjøvik’s own workshop in Sjøvika for purse seining and longline fishing off Greenland and Newfoundland — the first fishing vessel with twin cabins and a mess for crew.
1973
F/T Sjøvik III
62.5 metres, built by Soviknes Yards in 1973 — the first fishing vessel in Norway with bulb, Becker rudder and data-based synchronisation of trawl winches.
1986
F/T Concordia
67.3 metres, designed and built by Langstein yard on order of Sjøvik to develop an industrial scallop fishery in Norwegian waters — the first purpose-built vessel in Norway for fishing and onboard production of scallops.
1989
Pioneering scallops in Argentina
Test fishing with Seabay Alpha found large scallop deposits. Political unrest closed the project — today an extensive fishery exists there, in a field named the “Seabay Alpha” field.
1997
Management in eastern Russia
Management of twelve longliners fishing Pacific cod in eastern Russia. In this period, Sjøvik was the world’s largest supplier of Pacific cod.
2001
F/V Karelia II
Whitefish fishing in the Barents Sea under Russian flag — producing fillet, H/G, canned liver and fishmeal.
2006
Project in Dakhla
Pelagic trawling off Dakhla with Midøy Dakhla 1 — sardines, mackerel, horse mackerel and sardinella.
2017
F/V Ocean Venture
Sjøvik operates the pelagic trawler F/V Ocean Venture through its subsidiary Sjovik Morocco S.A.
