Since 1973
Factory trawling
Sjøvik has operated factory trawlers since 1973. In co-operation, Sjøvik has operated the trawler Karelia II since 2001 — processing frozen cod, haddock and redfish fillets, producing fishmeal and canning liver. Since 2006, Sjøvik has operated off the coast of Western Sahara, where the freezing trawler Midøy Dakhla 1 caught mackerel, horse mackerel, sardinella and sardines.

1986 — 1999
Dredging for scallops and clams
Sjøvik developed new technology to catch and process scallops in the Barents Sea and — in a later joint venture with one of the largest Canadian fishing companies — clams in Canadian waters. In 1989 Sjøvik researched scallop fishing in Argentina with Seabay Alpha. A substantial fishery has since been established there, and one of the biggest grounds is named the “Seabay Alpha” field.

1994 — 2002
Longlining
Sjøvik managed 12 longliners owned by a fishing company in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka, Russia — covering fishing operations, maintenance, spares, transport, product sales, budgeting and administration. Sjøvik was appointed by the German bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, which financed the project.

From 1945
Purse seining
Sjøvik owned and operated its own purse seining vessels from 1945. In 1999 Sjøvik bought Midøy Fiskeriselskap AS, owner of a combined purse seiner/trawler with onboard processing and cold store, sold in August 2007.
